2006 Sierra

Here’s a truck designed to work as hard as you do. Sierra 1500, 2500, 2500HD and 3500 Series trucks are all available with a “Work Truck” trim level or three other trim levels. Key differences include a more work-oriented list of interior features, such as a standard 40/20/40 split-bench front seat with vinyl and rubberized vinyl floor covering, and exterior features such as a painted rear bumper and painted steel wheels. Every Sierra work truck, of course, offers the choice of powerful engines and incredibly rugged chassis and suspension systems that Sierra trucks are famous for. And that includes trailering ratings of up to 9,200 lbs for 1500 Series trucks, 10,800 lbs for 2500 Series trucks and 16,100 lbs for Heavy Duty trucks – matched by payload ratings of, respectively, up to 1,970, 3,570 and 5,543 lbs.

Heavy-Duty Engines and Transmissions.
A powerful-and exclusive-combination: Duramax Diesel V8 and new Allison six-speed tap-shift automatic transmission. Sierra heavy-duty models are available with the Duramax Diesel V8 and new Allison six-speed tap-shift automatic. The combination of these two technically advanced components is a perfect example of integrated technology producing a sum greater than its parts. During R&D, the Allison transmission proved to be rugged enough to transfer more torque than any Duramax Diesel ahd ever produced. Consequently-since the Allison could handle more power-our engineers, for 2006, were free to boost the Duramax's performance to an incredible 360 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque-the most standard V8 horsepower and the most torque in its class.

At the heart of the Hybrid system is the first 42-volt system of its kind in a full-size pickup, with three specially engineered batteries mounted under the rear seat. They provide power for the system, power the starter generator and run a unique power steering system. A conventional under-hood battery powers the truck’s normal electrical items.

The Sierra Hybrid is the first full-size pickup to offer, in effect, a built-in generator. The Hybrid system includes four 120-volt AC auxiliary power outlets. Two are located under the rear seat, and two are in the pickup bed. You can use the outlets while driving or parked, to power anything from tools at a construction site to appliances at a campground.

The Power of Professional Grade Engineering.
The most powerful line of full-size pickups*. When it comes to trailering, the more torque the better. And for 2006, every Sierra truck is engineered for impressive torque. What's more, heavy-duty models with the Duramax Diesel 6600 V8 and the new Allison six-speed tap-shift automatic transmission offer 360 hp and 650 lb-ft of torque-the most torque in their class-and that makes Sierra the most powerful line of pickups available.

*Based on 2006 model year available engine torque. Excludes other GM vehicles.

Building on a reputation for power and performance.
Sierra Trucks have a reputation for their breadth of lineup and depth of performance. An impressive variety of ½ ton and heavy duty models are available, with regular, extended and crew cabs. The Sierra Denali completes the lineup, and for 2006 it features a new crew cab and a specially tuned 345-HP Vortec 6000 V8 engine. With a wide choice of vortec engines, complimented by the Duramax Diesel 6600 V8 with its class-leading torque, Sierra Pickups are big on power and performance. In fact, Sierra heavy-duty pickups offer payload capacities up to 5,497 lbs, matched by outstanding trailering capabilities up to 16,700 lbs.

Quadrasteer: One more way Sierra is designed to give you unsurpassed control.
With four-wheel steering, intricate maneuvering is easy, even if you have to work around a parked boat blocking your way to the lake. But the benefits don't end there. At low speed, four-wheel steering lets you slip into driveways or tight parking spots with ease. At highway speeds, it enhances high-speed stability. Quadrasteer is, quite simply, a technological masterpiece. It electronically controls the direction of the rear wheels at different speeds and turns the rear wheels up to a twelve-degree angle. The system can be fully automatic or driver selectable, so you can deactivate the system for front-wheel-only steering with the push of a button. Quadrasteer is escpecially valuable when towing a trailer. In 4WS Tow mode, the system lets the rear wheels act as a steering axle for the trailer. That lets the trailer actually change lanes in unison with the truck. In straight-line driving with a trailer, four-wheel steering enhances stability.

Spaciousness.
Now, this is what the interior of a truck is supposed to look like. Wrap your hands around the wheel. The first thing you’ll notice is the convenient steering-wheel-mounted controls. They let you adjust the audio system, voice-activated the OnStar™ system, or control the Drive Information Center (DIC). The DIC provides you with information on everything from a warning about a door ajar to a fuel economy reading. Sierra’s interior not only has a wealth of amenities, it’s designed to be extremely quiet. The doors feature a double seal, similar to those used in luxury sedans, to help reduce wind noise. In vehicles with bucket seats, a floor console features a large storage area and cupholders. And on Extended and Crew Cab models, an overhead console with map lights is available.

Driver Information Center.
A sophisticated Driver Information Center, standard on all Sierra models, monitors numerous vehicle functions and provides alerts, from 'turn signal on' to a reminder for an oil change or door ajar.
Interior Amenities.
Every Sierra model's interior is designed for comfort and convenience. Steering-wheel-mounted controls let you easily adjust the audio system, voice-activate available OnStar or control the Driver Information Center. And dual-zone climate control system allows the driver and the front passenger to select heating and air-conditioning settings up to 30 degrees apart.

Power Sliding Sunroof
Extended and Crew Cab models with SLE-2 or SLT trim offer an available power-operated, express-open, tilt-sliding sunroof. It features a wind deflector and a two-piece design with a see-through roof and interior retractable shade, and includes the Universal Home Remote transmitter.

Sliding Rear Window
Every Sierra model offers an available manual-sliding rear window. It requires deep-tinted Solar-Ray® glass, and the electric rear-window defogger is deleted when the sliding window is ordered.
Heavy-Duty Jobs call for heavy-duty performance.
Sierra 2500HD and 3500 series trucks offer a choice of powerful Vortec Engines, or an available Duramax™ Diesel 6600 V8 Engine, along with a technically advanced available Allison® 1000 five-speed automatic transmission. A rugged chassis and Z85 suspension system help 2500HD trucks provide a payload rating up to 3,585 lbs and trailer weight rating up to 16,100 lbs. 3500 single-rear-wheel trucks boast, a payload rating up to 4,238 lbs, up to 15,700 lbs. With that kind of heavily heavy-duty capability, you have a wide choice of trucks designed to help you get the job done right.
